Black house love: Wairarapa Home

Hard to believe that this magnificent house and garden, located in Te Ore Ore near Masterton in the Wairarapa region of New Zealand, owned by renowned New Zealand landscape designer, Lyn Eglinton and her husband, was nothing but a bare paddock in 2009.

From the moment I saw it, I just fell completely and utterly in love. It’s my screensaver on my phone AND my laptop. I literally can’t stop looking at it.

I stumbled upon images of Lyn’s amazing property rather unexpectedly, so did a little digging and found it was actually featured in NZ Houses & Garden in December last year. Not sure how I missed it as I regularly buy NZ House & Garden (along with Australian House & Garden) but I think this property is so incredible it deserves much more publicity!

The garden truly is a sight to behold and I am just so in love with this house. Black timber siding, huge floor to ceiling windows, high pitched roofline. What’s not to love!?

I mean seriously, have you ever seen buxus topiary like this?!?! Quite incredible, especially considering this garden has grown up from nothing in just 4-5 years. I have no idea how Lyn got these buxus to grow so quickly!

The colourful and lively interiors. A lovely contrast to the black and green exterior landscape.

And if you love that board and batten siding, or modern farmhouse design, take a look at this recent post.
