Moonacres Kitchen, Robertson

There’s a new cafe in town and it’s sure to impress even the most discerning of cafe-goers and foodies! Moonacres Kitchen, located in the sleepy small town of Robertson (5 mins from where we live) in the beautiful Southern Highlands of New South Wales, is so impressive you’d be forgiven if you forget where you are!

We attended the official opening last night, but got to really test-run it this morning when my husband and I took the kids for breaky. It was tricky to get interior shots as I didn’t have my tripod and had to move fast because people were coming in thick and fast, but I managed to get a few for you all to see!

The fit out is very impressive. Modern, refined and inviting. From the moment you enter, a beautiful counter serving a delicious assortment of enticing flaky pastries (the kind you’d usually find at a top French bakery) and freshly baked sourdough bread. Your eye then leads to a separate bar and counter where patrons can leisurely read the daily newspapers and sip on top-quality coffee. It’s also an ideal spot to sit with a glass of wine if it’s, ahem, past lunchtime!

There’s rich, warm woods and parquet tables with beautiful brass details, gleaming textured white tiles, beautiful lighting, a roaring slow combustion fire and aesthetically pleasing wood stack (tick, tick, tick!). There’s also a full window view into the kitchen and the coolest meat display I’ve ever seen.

Moonacres Kitchen feels part Victor Churchill butchery, part French bakery and part David Jones food hall, with a modern, country vibe and friendly warmth and ambiance.

It’s really unlike anything else here in the Southern Highlands region, and even before the new fit-out was complete, people have been raving about the food and quality farm-fresh produce here for some time. In fact, I think the most impressive and important aspect of the new Moonacres Kitchen, is the fact that much of the produce and ingredients are sourced locally, from either Moonacres Farm itself, or other nearby producers and farmers. As Phil Lavers, owner of Moonacres Farm, said last night at the opening, “The produce is so fresh, its heart is still beating.”

This place is the real deal people, and I, for one, am feeling very lucky to have this new local cafe, filled with wonderful hospitality, exceptional food and farm-fresh quality produce, all encased in a venue with first-class interiors.

If you’re visiting the Southern Highlands, DO NOT leave without a visit here. Even just a coffee, fresh sourdough and some exquisite pastries! Just remember, like all cafes, we need to give them time to settle in and adjust to swarms of new patrons at once. Eeek.
