Oval dining tables

Square. Round. Rectangular. They’re the most common shapes for a dining table, yet oval is certainly not a common shape when it comes to dining tables. Ironically, I think it’s a shape that not only works in any room, but also promotes a sense of inclusiveness and adds fluidity and softness to a space.

I personally love an oval dining table because if I had a dollar for every time I clipped the corner of a dining table with my hip, or had my top graze the corner (resulting in a top being pulled), I’d be a millionaire!! With a growing family, I love the security of knowing it’s one less corner for a child to walk into. Hazard reduction 101!

In recent years I’ve become increasingly interested in oval dining tables. The problem? It’s a real challenge to find ones that don’t look like they belong in Government House. And by that I mean ones that aren’t highly polished mahogany!

This is such a gorgeous space! Ina Garten’s Barn House in the Hamptons. Especially love the mismatches upholstered dining chairs.

I think oval dining tables are a beautiful and unusual shape, but if you’re not sure about an oval dining table then maybe some of these gorgeous examples will change your mind!

Think this is a really funky dining space, oozing Scandinavian cool.
The incredible oval dining table from the movie set of It’s Complicated. This table was for sale awhile back through One Kings Lane but went for quite a bit of money as it was custom made in Los Angeles for the movie. I just love the raw grey-wash timber top and double pedestal base, especially with those black dining chairs! So unusual.
How stunning is this black oval dining table paired with the white slip covered dining chairs?! I just love this look. Image via melanieturnerinteriors.com
I love the country feel of this space and the softness the timber oval dining table brings together with the round pendant lights. With so many angles going on in this room, I think an oval dining shape is the perfect choice here. Image via micasa.be
This is one of my favourite dining spaces and tables. I SO want to be at that dinner party! Image via capekidnappers.co.nz
We have these exact black American windsor chairs and we get a lot of compliments on them. Think they’d look great with a raw timber oval dining table which reflects the oval shape of the chairs. Image via pinterest.
