Square. Round. Rectangular. They’re the most common shapes for a dining table, yet oval is certainly not a common shape when it comes to dining tables. Ironically, I think it’s a shape that not only works in any room, but also promotes a sense of inclusiveness and adds fluidity and softness to a space.
I personally love an oval dining table because if I had a dollar for every time I clipped the corner of a dining table with my hip, or had my top graze the corner (resulting in a top being pulled), I’d be a millionaire!! With a growing family, I love the security of knowing it’s one less corner for a child to walk into. Hazard reduction 101!
In recent years I’ve become increasingly interested in oval dining tables. The problem? It’s a real challenge to find ones that don’t look like they belong in Government House. And by that I mean ones that aren’t highly polished mahogany!
I think oval dining tables are a beautiful and unusual shape, but if you’re not sure about an oval dining table then maybe some of these gorgeous examples will change your mind!
